Mauricio Palos
Mauricio Palos was born in San Luis Potosi. He had his first photography-related job at the age of 20 years-old, when he worked as a chief photographers department in the Mexican newspaper called La Jornada San Luis,
He has a degree in Marketing Research, and has been recognized as an "Expert in Marketing" and "Specialist in Marketing" in the Universidad Europea de Madrid, Spain, where he also took photojournalism courses.
In the last few years, Palos has been living between Mexico, Texas, London, Madrid and Central America studying and working to develop and improve his photographic style. It was on his trips abroad, while working closely with immigrants from South America, Eastern Europe and India in restaurants and bars, that Palos began to become interested in documenting the immigrant lifestyle, and the causes and effects of immigration on the individual and community.
Since then, he has been researching and documenting immigrants’ lives, but mostly trying to understand the decision that people made to leave their country and start over again in a completely alien place, facing language barriers and social discrimination. A project that he have been working on for 3 years, and planning to continue exploring their lives in USA.
Mauricio has been able to work very close with mexican well-known photographers such as Marco Antonio Cruz, Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, Maya Goded and the Mexican curator Armando Cristeto Patiño, who have each, through patience and their devotion to photography, been dedicated to helping the new generation of Mexico.
He is part of the touring project Laberinto de Miradas, an exhibition that shows the work of photographers in Iberoamerica, working social and immigration issues, that started in 2008 and will be traveling around the world until 2010.
He was selected by the México, Central America and The Caribbean committee to being nominated to participate in the Joop Swart Master Class of the World Press Photo in the 2009.
