Yoray Liberman
Istanbul-based Yoray Liberman covers political, social and conflict issues throughout the Middle East, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. He has been witness to the revolution in Kyrgyzstan, unrest in Afghanistan, social issues in Kazakhastan, the Cypriot conflict and many others for different magazines and newspapers in the United States and Europe. He moved to Turkey in 2004 to work on long-term projects related to the country’s changing society and developing economy as it faces its goal of entering the European Union.
Fascinated by learning and exploring, Yoray moved from Jerusalem to New York City in 1999 after covering the Middle East conflicts for Gamma, AFP and the Israeli newspaper Maariv. While in New York, he worked as a freelance photographer in the US and Central America. In 2000, he moved on to Paris where he covered various stories and conflicts in Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia, in addition to his coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for the last 13 years.
